Quora:2017年内蒙古经济规模是蒙古的21倍,蒙古国网友如何看? 世界看中国-第1张

What do you think of”Inner Mongolia(China)’s economy is 21 times bigger than Mongolia’s in 2017″?

Amar,ie in Mongolia

Because most Inner Mongolians are actually Han Chinese
Inner Mongolian population is 8 times of Mongolia.Inner Mongolian land is far more fertile than Mongolia
Inner Mongolian GDP per capita is 2.5 times of Mongolia.I blame dysfunctional democracy and nomadic mentality for that gap
Dysfunctional democracy-Mongolian democracy is very messy for 3 million people.Constantbattle between political groups and parties is a huge obstacle for economic growth. When opposite party win election, they fires previous government workers and install their imcompetent people. If you visit capital city Ulaanbaatar, you can clearly see messiness of Mongolian democracy immediately
Nomadic mentality-Wrestlers,buddhist priests, shamanists, hooligaans are highly respected people in Mongolia.Anotherhand most Mongolians look down scientists, high iq nerds, doctors, professors, teachers. It is very opposite to Han Chinese culture
Wide spread alcoholism, laziness, high crime rate does not help.

It really doesn’ t surprise me.
Inner Mongolia itself is blessed with vast access to several different both vital and/or rare resources, such as beryllium, natural gas and cashmere wool.
The overall climate is much more pleasant for foreign business partners and the land has throughout history been remarkably fertile, in sharp contrast to the very dry and cold Mongolia. Large state owned corporations in the region such as China Mengniu Limited and Yili Group are able to swiftly and efficiently achieve their targets with almost unlimited government backing. This is virtually impossible in Mongolia, as the private sector plays a significantly more pivotal role in the Mongolian economy.
6 economic development zones have been established in Inner Mongolia:
1 zone in Baotou
3 zones in Hohhot
1 zone in Erenhot

1 zone in Manzhouli

Not to mention the fact that the number of Mongols in Inner Mongolia(6.1 million)is about twice as many than the total number of Mongols in Mongolia(3.2 million)
Besides,China is definitely the prosperous one between the two countries

Kind of funny question. In Inner Mongolia has 83%Chinese 17%Mongolians(6 millions)population.Don’t compare to Mongolia.I don’t mind being poor keep our nomadic life with beautiful country sides.China transferred Chinese people to Inner Mongolia during revolutionary time late 1960’s.China should pay to Inner Mongolians using their land like a American Government pays to Indians.

I wonder if anyone can actually believe that.Economic data from China often totally inflated.
BEUING(Reuters)-A northern industrial city in China said its 2017 fiscal revenue was significantly less than it had earlier estimated partly due to”fake”additions, making al revision just days after reports of similar incidents fueled scepticism over official data.
Baotou in China’s Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region revised its estimated fiscal revenue in 2017 lower by nearly 50 percent in an annual work report,a copy of which was published on the Baotou government’s website on Jan.13.
…”Starting with the northeastern province of Liaoning in January 2017,the Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region and the city of Tianjin have said their statistics were wrong.

Of the three, only Tianjin has admitted doctoring the overall provincial gross domestic product figures.Liaoning and Inner Mongolia had padded something else:their fiscal revenues.
In Liaoning Province tax receipts and income from various fees were padded by 20-30% according to counties and cities during the period of 2011-2014.Inner Mongolia has said thata quarter of the fiscal revenue stated for 2016 were actually fake.”
There was some bad news from Inner Mongolia last week:Apparently its headline economic statistics are complete nonsense. The remote northern Chinese province, famous for its sweeping Midwest-like plains, said its 2016 industrial growth had been overstated by 40% while government revenue was inflated a mere 26%.

Mongolia has already been a dirt-poor nation and during the early independence, the Mongolian leadership depended much from Russia to keep its security check.Meanwhile, fear of Chinese conquest put Mongolia to set up military base and its reliance from Russia allowed more Russian troops to stay
However, because Mongolia is not a country of their own in the right meaning, its economywas poorly managed. In contrast,as China reformed herself from 1978 onward,China becamea new global power.Inner Mongolia soon got the effect of economic liberalization and the region is benefited much from Chinese development,a big thank for the reforms.
Mongolia, having joined global economy very late, only in 1990s,you cannot expect Mongolia has a bigger economy than just even to Ningxia, don’t even say to Inner Mongolia.

Since Inner Mongolia not only has eight times the population of independent Mongolia but is part of a China that undertook economic reform perhaps a decade and a half before post-Communist Mongolia,it is frankly unsurprising to me that Inner Mongolia’s economy is so much larger than independent Mongolia”s

Oh my god!It’s TRUE.(Edited)

Robert Xu

Quite normal2??Ir m not sure what other responses you want.
Firstly,Inner Mongolia has 8 times more people than Mongolia. So having a greater GDP is to be expected.
Secondly,Inner Mongolia is resource rich. And the government has taken steps to exploit it.
Thirdly,Inner Mongolia is within China. This means that it immediately has access to a huge market of 1.3 billion people.Compare this to landlocked Mongolia sandwiched between China and Russia.

John Savard

That’s not hard to believe at all.Outer Mongolia-the sovereign nation of Mongolia-is mostly desert, and nearly all the people who live there are ethnic Mongolians.
Inner Mongolia,a province of China,is mostly inhabited by Chinese people, with ethnic Mongolians a minority. So it has a much higher population,it s part of the dynamic economy of the Chinese mainland, and it likely has a better climate with a higher proportion of arable land.
It doesn’tmean that Mongolia necessarily has a serious problem,as the population of Inner Mongolia is likely also much larger.

Xiao Yang, English Editor (2009-present)

Apparently that’s good news for Inner Mongolia and not the sovereign government of Mongolia. But is this statement really true? Sounds a bit hard to believe that Inner Mongolia is doing so much better, so lets review the GDP figures.
Mongolia’s GDP(gross domestic product) reached an all-time high in 2013, totaling US$12.58 billion, but has been trending down in recent years in 2017, the GDP stood at US$11.49 billion. So lets multiply that number by 21 and it s at around US$241.29 billion.
Inner Mongolia’s regional GDP was US$255 billion for 2018 and had enjoyed 5.3 percentannual growth rate. Despite a slower growth rate than the national economy thats still impressive.
So what could explain the vast differences between Mongolia and Inner Mongolia? Could population numbers be a factor? Mongolia’s population is 3.16 million according to a live population feed from the website Worldometers, as of June 17,2019. Meanwhile Inner Mongolia’s population is 24.71 million according to a China Census taken in 2010.

Inner Mongolia’s population is significantly larger, but not 21 times the size of Mongolia and comes nowhere near that. So something else must be leading to the huge discrepancy.
Well, Mongolia can’t say they are lacking in natural resources or struggling to generate business opportunities. The country is a fertile breeding and grazing ground for lamb, horses and yaks. Mongolians have a passion for eating meat, so they can boost livestock production.
Mongolia is also rich for underground minerals and mining. The potential for Mongolia to jumpstart its GDP is huge with more foreign direct investments (FDD, improved business climate and deeper cooperation between the government and companies operating there.
Yet, Mongolia has proven unreliable in opening up its markets to foreign companies and thathas hampered its growth patterns. The world’s second-largest miner Rio Tinto has pledged to expand a minefield in Mongolia, Oyu Tolgoi with plans to pour in US$5.3 billion, but there are constant delays and meddling by the Mongolian government.
You can read more about it from an article posted by Mining Website. The link is here:

然而,事实证明,蒙古在向外国公司开放市场方面并不可靠,这阳碍了其经济增长。全球第二大矿业公司力拓(里约热内卢Tinto)已承诺扩大蒙古奥尤陶勒盖(Oyu Tolgoi)的一个雷区,计划投入53亿美元,但蒙古政府不断拖延和干预。

As reported by Mining
“They also said the delay would hit the mine’s free cash flow by about $1 billion betweennow and 2024,with about $340 million being attributable to Rio Tinto. The company holds a 56%stake in the mine through Turquoise Hill and the Mongolia’s government holds the remainder.
Turquoise Hill(TSE,NSYE:TRQ),the Rio-controlled company that owns 66 percent of the project, confirmed Tuesday that sustainable production at Oyu Tolgoi would be achieved by the end of the third quarter of 2021,rather than in early 2021.The company attributed the nine-month holdup to challenging ground conditions and delays in the completion of Shaft2.”

Hence, the Mongolian government only has itself to blame for failing to improve the nation’s economic conditions. One should take note that in recent years Western governments pledgeo deeper support for Ulaan Bator but as we can see they have failed to deliver positive results to beneft the good peopole of Mongolia.
Meanwhile, people living and doing business in Inner Mongolia, which is part of China, are enjoying much more prosperity. The regional capital is not a ghost town as claimed by western media reports. If you visit Hohhot, the city is very vibrant and many people do reside there
Beijing has succeeded in building more vital infrastructure in Inner Mongolia to ensure that residents will be more closely connected to the rest of China.Accordingly that has resulted in Inner Mongolia becoming much more successful economically, socially and politically

It is only common.Mongolia is a pure inland country, while China has a long coastline.China will have a natural advantage that Mongolia doesn’t have.As a province of China,Inner Mongolia would gain these advantages directly or indirectly.Say,a large firm may set up thein database and super computers in Inner Mongolia while their commercial headquarters in other mega cities in the East.

I never think of it.

The Chinese only care about Inner Mongolia,
Indeed, there are fewer and fewer nomadic mongolians.
Most people leave the yurts and move into cities, which is a good thing.
The per capita GDP of Inner Mongolia is relatively high in China.I hope Inner Mongolia can develop better.

I summerized my several viewpoints share with you:
Much more terrible climate in Mongolia
Fewer pouplaion in Mongolis
More poweful government in Inner Mongolia that easy to devlop the economy,
Resources relied-style economy compare to Inner Mongolia,
Powerful backup from fedrel government in Inner Mongolia.

Look at the map of Mongolia.Mongolia has a vast land area of 1.5 million km2.It is even larger than the area of France,Germany,Italy, and the UK combined.

But sometimes maps are deceiving. It only tells you half the story.Let’s look at another version of the map:”population map”.
Notice the green dot above China? That is the actual”size”of Mongolia.

Yes,there are just 3 million people in Mongolia.
Just for an interesting comparison,I grew up in a”small town”in Shandong province in China that almost no one has ever heard about. There are around 4 million people in my hometown.Yes,it is already bigger than Mongolia.Interestingly, the GDP of my hometown is around $34 billion dollas[1],which is not among the top 100 highest GDP cities in China. But my hometown is still more than two times of Mongolia’s total GDP:$13 billion dollars[21.

In 2018,Inner Mongolia has 25 million people, which is more than eight times of Mongolia.Among them,6 million are registered as Mongolian and more are mixed descendants between Han and Mongol people.
What’s surprising is that Inner Mongolians are even richer than the average Chinese. In 2018,the total GDP of Inner Mongolia is $251 billion dollars, which is around 20 times of Mongolia’s GDP.If Mongolia were a city in Inner Mongolia, its GDP would rank 9th in Inner Mongolia[3].Yes,the economy size of the whole country Mongolia is similar to a prefecture city in Inner Mongolia:e.g.Ulangab League
However, this post is not about boasting the economic superiority of Inner Mongolia. It is more interesting to understand the potential historic, geographic and political reasons that contribute to the vast differences in the economy
Let’s first look at the historical and geographic differences. Then I will discuss how Inner Mongolia did differently in the sectors of infrastructure, energy, tourism, dairy, animal husbandry, mining industry, and environment protection.

Tufshin Dash,Mongolian

Statistical figures of Inner Mongolia or China are falsified and fake as admitted by themselves.
Besides, most economic output comes from heavy exploitation of their land, coal mining, rare earth metal mining with disastrous ecological result which harms local population livelihood, herding and their living standard. And the mining profits go to investors pocket not locals.
According to a report from the Xinhua News Agency on January 3,the local government ofNorth China’s Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region admitted that it had inflated its fiscal revenue fiqures via measures such as colluding with companies to create spurious government revenues.

Tuul Gurjav,lived in Ulaanbaatar,Mongolia

let’s compare Inner Mongolia and Mongolia.Inner Mongolia has Chinese(83%)residents and Mongolian(17%)residents.Mongolia has 3 millions Mongolians have to be 10%of foreign residents including Chinese.Inner Mongolia is communist and Mongolia is democratic country.Inner Mongolia more developed than Mongolia that’s true because Chinese residents doing that.Inner Mongolians still trying to do nomadic life but there’s no lands to moving to feed al live stocks.Mongolian nomadic people still moves to land to land to feed a live stocks.Inner Mongolia have large city”Hohhot”and high paid jobs actually pretty good because Chinese residents doing that.Chinese residents and communist regions helping Inner Mongolia to developing but this is all for them.
